ComicSwap works because there are people on the other side. Collectors who describe what they have accurately, who reply, who turn up at the agreed time and who treat someone else's comic with the same care as their own. These guidelines are here to protect that.
The guidelines
1. Describe your comics as they are
Condition is the first thing the person on the other side wants to know. If the spine is worn, if there is a stain or a signature, or if the centrefold poster is missing, say so. A copy honestly described as "fair" builds much more trust than one sold as "mint" that arrives damaged.
2. Use photos of your own copies
No images taken from the internet or the publisher's official cover to represent your copy. The photo has to be of the comic you actually have on your shelf, with enough light to show its condition.
3. Nothing counterfeit or pirated
Unauthorised reproductions, scans, home-made prints and counterfeit material have no place here. Original comics are what changes hands here.
4. Keep to what you agree
If you say you will ship on Monday, ship on Monday. If you have arranged to meet somewhere at seven, turn up. And if something unexpected comes up (it happens), let the other person know as soon as possible. Disappearing after closing a deal is the quickest way to ruin your reputation here.
5. Treat people well
You can haggle, disagree about the condition of a copy or turn down an offer without being disrespectful. Insults, harassment, threats and discriminatory messages of any kind are not tolerated.
6. The chat is for talking about comics
Do not use it to send advertising, promote other platforms, send suspicious links or keep pressing someone who has already told you they are not interested.
7. One person, one account
No duplicate accounts to inflate ratings, get around a block or come back after being expelled.
8. Be careful with what you show
You can catalogue and offer comics for adult readers, which are part of the medium like any other. What we ask is that explicit images do not appear in your profile picture or in the thumbnails shown while browsing, where nobody has gone looking for them.
Remember how ComicSwap works
ComicSwap puts you in touch. You agree on the price, the payment and the delivery yourselves, outside the app. We do not hold money, we do not handle shipping and we cannot reverse a payment.
That is why reputation and common sense matter so much: they are your real guarantee.
Tips for things to go well
- Look at the profile before closing anything. Positive ratings from previous contacts say a lot.
- Talk through the ComicSwap chat while you are closing the deal. If someone insists on taking you somewhere else from the very first message, be wary.
- Ask for specific photos if something is not clear: the spine, the corners, the inside, the back cover.
- If you meet in person, choose a public place with people around. A café, a bookshop, the entrance to a shopping centre.
- If there is shipping, agree beforehand on who pays for what, use a tracked service and pack in rigid packaging. A badly packed comic arrives bent.
- Be wary of haste. Someone who pressures you to pay right now, without giving you time to check anything, almost never has good intentions.
- Rate the contact when you are done. It is what lets the next person know who they are dealing with.
If something goes wrong
Within the app you have two tools, and it is worth using them:
- Block, so that someone stops appearing to you and cannot write to you.
- Report, to let us know about behaviour that breaks these guidelines.
We review every report, and it is done by a person, not an automated system. Depending on how serious it is and whether it is repeated, we may remove content, warn the user, restrict their account or close it permanently. Anyone who receives one of these measures will be told the reason and can reply by email. Accounts closed for fraud are not readmitted.
If you would rather tell us in writing, or if it is urgent, write to soporte@comicswap.app with the username and what happened.
And if what happened is a crime (a scam, a threat), report it to the police as well. We can close an account; they can do quite a lot more.
These guidelines may change
As the community grows we will fine-tune them. We will publish any change here with its date.
